Residents

Tom Bouwens is a native of Holland, MI. He graduated from Hope College in Michigan with a BA degree in chemistry and a minor in mathematics with Magna Cum Laude honors where he was a four-time All-American swimmer. He attended the University of Michigan School of Dentistry where he won several scholarships for academic excellence including the William S. Kramer Award of Excellence. At UM he was an AADR Student Research Fellow and NIDCR Short-Term Research Trainee. He received several awards and honors at his dental graduation, including the Alpha Omega Award for high academic honors in his class. He was also selected for Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Tom’s wife, Theresa, is a Michigan native and an elementary school teacher. He is in his third year of training.

Antonio Braithwaite is a native of Brooklyn. He came south for college at Carolina. A graduate of the School of Public Health's Bachelor of Science in Nutrition, he will be our first resident to train dually in Pediatric Dentistry and nutrition. Antonio's research with Jessica Lee (2002) won him a summer research fellowship, a Turner Research Award and a trip to the IADR meeting in Hawaii to present his findings on "Dental Utilization by Low Income Pre School Children". He is also the dental school's first ever winner of an Albert Schweitzer Community Service Award for his program to help underserved children. Antonio’s wife, Mary is a senior in medical school. He is in his second year of training.

Matthew T. Goslee is a recent DDS Graduate from the School of Dentistry at the University of Connecticut in Farmington, CT. He is a graduate of Gettysburg College in Gettysburg, PA where he received a BA degree in political science with a minor in philosophy. At UConn Matt had a keen interest in international health and was involved in projects in both Haiti and Peru. At graduation, Matt won both the Public Health Dentistry Award and the Community Service Award and the prestigious Alpha Omega Award for high academic honors in his class. Matt’s wife, Julie, is a psychiatry resident here at UNC-CH. He is in his third year of training.

Jonelle Grant is a native of South Carolina who graduated from Duke University with a BA in Anthropology. She received her dental degree from UNC-CH. While in dental school, Jonelle was active in many professional organizations and involved in many leadership roles. Jonelle has organized and participated in numerous community outreach programs, providing treatment to children with limited access to care. Jonelle is currently in her first year of training.

Jenny Jackson is a native of Raleigh who received her BS degree in microbiology at North Carolina State University, where she was Valedictorian of the Class of 2000 and selected for Phi Beta Kappa honors. She graduated from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM) where she had been involved in a number of research and community-service related projects. She received several graduation honors including recognition as Class Salutatorian and graduated Magna Cum Laude and was selected for Omicron Kappa Upsilon at HSDM. Jenny’s husband, Rick, is pursuing an MBA/JD program here at UNC-CH. She is in her third year of training.

Rhonda Kearney is a native of Warrington, NC she graduated magna cum laud with Phi Beta Kappa Honors from UNC Greensboro with a BS in Biology and Teacher Certification. A NC Teaching Fellow, she taught high school biology for three years in the Guilford/Forsyth School System before entering dental school in 2001. She served as a teaching assistant and tutor during her dental school career. Rhonda was active in the Student National Dental Association group here at UNC, serving as the chair of several committees and as a community coordinator for four major SNDA Community initiatives and as SNDA President 2003-04. She is in her second year of training.

Julie Robinson Molina is a native of the small eastern NC town of Aurora. She's one of those individuals who list her pediatric dentist as one of the most influential people in her life. Jim Congleton (1979) of New Bern was her pediatric dentist and mentor and she knew from an early age that she wanted to follow in his footsteps. Julie received her BS in Biology here at Carolina after which she worked for 14 months as a dental assistant for Bobby Elliott (1998) of Cary. Julie was active in Delta Sigma Delta, serving as President in 2003-04. She was a school leader for NC Give Kids a Smile from 2003-05. Julie’s husband Tony is a Prosthodontist and full-time UNC-CH faculty member. She is in her second year training.

Elizabeth Prada is a Michigan native who received a BA in Biology and Public Policy Studies at Duke University. Liz received her dental degree for the University of Pennsylvania where she was the recipient of numerous honors and awards for her academic accomplishments and her research interests. She has been involved in many community based health activities both while in college and in dental school. Liz is currently in her first year of training.
