The main reason for visiting Myrtle Beach is the long strip of tranquil sandy beaches along the Atlantic Coast known as The Grand Strand, which stretches for around 60 miles to the north and south of the main town. There is a good selection of hotels fronting the shore, and plenty of small guesthouses to stay in during your stay.

Much of Myrtle Beach's popularity is undoubtedly due to the fact that with so much beach area on offer, it is rarely crowded, and enjoys a lovely summer climate, and close by, you can see many historic attractions.

With a reputation as the main tourist destination in South Carolina, Myrtle Beach offers plenty to do for travellers taking their holiday in the city, and amongst the many leisure attractions on offer, there is something to appeal to everyone, no matter what their interests. Families will love the many water parks such as Family Kingdom, and Myrtle Waves, where you can frolic in the sun and whiz down exciting slides. If you've got the urge to see the sea, then many local companies offer the chance to go deep sea fishing, and boats are easy to charter for a day trip into the Atlantic in search of Marlin and sharks, while for landlubbers, there is the chance to play golf on one of many PGA standard golf courses dotted around the outskirts of the city.

On one of the rare rainy days, there is a large shopping centre filled with great value shops and malls to spend time and cash in, and prices tend to be as low as anywhere else in the USA, and a few museums including the Children's Museum of South Carolina.

Myrtle beach boasts one of the top venues on the high speed NASCAR programme, and the professional track is open throughout the year for amateur drivers to see how it feels to be driven around an oval circuit at frightening speed. The Myrtle Beach Speedway offers the chance to be chauffeured by a proper racing driver, as well as taking the controls yourself, and the speeds that you achieve on the track are truly scary. The only low point of the day is when the staff present you a photograph taken of you in the car. It will invariably show you with a look of utter terror on your face, and your eyes tightly closed as you just miss the wall.
