About Surrey

In the South-East of England lies the County of Surrey. Although, due to boundary changes much of Northern Surrey has now been dissolved into Greater London. In the county town of Guildford you can explore its wealth of interesting history and admire its sheer beauty. Local attractions include, Guildford Cathedral set in 20 acres of green parkland, Guildford Castle, which dates back to 1066 and Loseley Park, an outstanding example of Elizabethan architecture built by Sir William More in 1562. Since 1780 the market town of Epsom has held the annual and worldwide famous 'Epsom Derby' horse race which continues to attract many visitors from far and wide.

Bletchingley
Bletchingley is a 'picture postcard' village of charming red brick houses and cottages with tile-hung roofs.
Brockham
This village is spread out from the picturesque banks of the delightful River Mole. It is said to have gained its name from the badgers or brocks living along its banks, but a more reasonable explanation is that the name comes from the word "brook".
Cobham
Cobham Mill rests on a picturesque stretch of the river surrounded by dipping weeping willows and graceful swans.
Cranleigh
The church is perhaps one of Cranleigh's most interesting features, in the south transept carved on an arch visitors can see the head of a grinning cat, this is believed to have been the inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Cheshire Cat.
Dorking
It is here that romantically Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton said their good byes before Nelson departed for the Battle of Trafalgar in the year 1805.
Farnham
It was King Caedwalla of Wessex who, in 688 bestowed the Manor of Farnham on the Bishop's of Winchester.
Oxted
A walk around the village reveals a riot of attractive 17th and 18th century cottages all standing on a rise surrounded by pretty flower-filled gardens.
Shepperton
The charming village of Shepperton was once the haunt of legendary highwayman Dick Turpin who is said to have visited the village's 400 year hostelry - the atmospheric Anchor Hotel overlooking Church Square.
Shere
This lovely tranquil village on the picturesque Tillingbourne, nestles beneath the rolling countryside of the North Downs.

Ash Green
This is a popular residential area reaching to the lower slopes of the Hog's Back.
Ash Vale
Ash Vale is a small place lying close to Aldershot. This has long been Army country and large areas of the regions open spaces are given over for use by the services as training grounds.
Elstead
Elstead is a spacious village occupying a favoured position in the Surrey countryside on the River Wey.
Hascombe
Part of the charm of Hascombe, are the several delightful gardens in the area, designed by Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932) celebrated landscape designer of the 19th and 20th-century.
Leatherhead
This is an ancient town, where the parish church of St.Mary and St.Nicholas has existed since Anglo-Saxon times.
Tongham
The interest in this village centre on its two famous landmarks. One its quaint church, built of chalk stone in the mid 19th-century, the other is the Hogs Back Hotel.
Wonersh
Picturesque village on the road from Guildford to Cranleigh. Here visitors will find a wealth of timber-frame black and white properties dominating the narrow village streets, thus the village retains a lovely timeless atmosphere.
