It is said to have gained its name from the badgers or brocks living along its banks, but a more reasonable explanation is that the name comes from the word "brook". | Cobham | Cobham Mill rests on a picturesque stretch of the river surrounded by dipping weeping willows and graceful swans. | Cranleigh | The church is perhaps one of Cranleigh's most interesting features, in the south transept carved on an arch visitors can see the head of a grinning cat, this is believed to have been the inspiration for Lewis Carroll's Cheshire Cat. | Dorking | It is here that romantically Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton said their good byes before Nelson departed for the Battle of Trafalgar in the year 1805. | Farnham | It was King Caedwalla of Wessex who, in 688 bestowed the Manor of Farnham on the Bishop's of Winchester. | Oxted | A walk around the village reveals a riot of attractive 17th and 18th century cottages all standing on a rise surrounded by pretty flower-filled gardens. | Shepperton | The charming village of Shepperton was once the haunt of legendary highwayman Dick Turpin who is said to have visited the village's 400 year hostelry - the atmospheric Anchor Hotel overlooking Church Square. | Shere | This lovely tranquil village on the picturesque Tillingbourne, nestles beneath the rolling countryside of the North Downs. | Virginia Water | Worth A Visit....Ash Green | This is a popular residential area reaching to the lower slopes of the Hog's Back. | Ash Vale | Ash Vale is a small place lying close to Aldershot. This has long been Army country and large areas of the regions open spaces are given over for use by the services as training grounds. | Elstead | Elstead is a spacious village occupying a favoured position in the Surrey countryside on the River Wey. | Hascombe | Part of the charm of Hascombe, are the several delightful gardens in the area, designed by Gertrude Jekyll (1843-1932) celebrated landscape designer of the 19th and 20th-century. | Leatherhead | This is an ancient town, where the parish church of St.Mary and St.Nicholas has existed since Anglo-Saxon times. | Tongham | The interest in this village centre on its two famous landmarks. One its quaint church, built of chalk stone in the mid 19th-century, the other is the Hogs Back Hotel. | Wonersh | Picturesque village on the road from Guildford to Cranleigh.
