Estimated 2005 retail sales of consumer-electronics accessories: $11 billion1
The biggest concern when considering an accessory—raised by 84% of consumers surveyed—is whether the accessory is compatible with the primary product.1
"Consumers who were given a recommendation by a salesperson at the time of a new CE purchase were up to two times more likely to purchase an accessory. However, this opportunity is not realized because [quoting from a previous CEA study] 'when purchasers buy a CE product, a salesperson recommends an accessory (required or optional) only 23 percent of the time.'"2
"One audio buyer at a mass merchant stated that although accessories account for 20 percent of total audio sales, they provide 50 percent of this category’s profit margin."2
