About the ADS
|
The ADS is USAID's directives management program. Agency policy directives; required procedures; and helpful, optional material are drafted, cleared, and issued through the ADS. Agency employees must adhere to these policy directives and required procedures. See the ADS Users Guide for detailed information about the ADS
The ADS Booklet is an informative, user-friendly guide to USAID’s Automated Directives System (ADS). Packed with graphics and easy-to-follow information, it explains what the ADS is, its structure and content, how to access it (web and CD), and how to find Agency policy or required procedures within the ADS.
|
|
Structure of the ADS
The ADS is divided into six Series organized by function. Within each Series you will find ADS chapters and the Interim Updates associated with the Series. An ADS chapter usually addresses a single policy area.
Chapters contain policy directives and required procedures, and links to related reference documents.
Interim Updates are temporary policy directives issued as Policy Notices.
The ADS replaces the old AID Handbook system. Some Handbook chapters are still active (see the Handbook Status List for details).

|
ADS Web Site
The ADS web site is an online portal to the most current ADS information and news. Updated on a real-time basis, it is reachable via the Internet or intranet.
The ADS web site houses the most recent versions of ADS chapters and internally created references, Interim Updates, and links to external references.
[Note: The entire list of Series 500 Interim Updates (Policy Notices) can be found on the ADS intranet site.]
The ADS web site now includes all of the still active AID Handbook chapters. See the ADS CD for material that is not located on the web.
|
|
ADS CD
The ADS CD is updated and issued quarterly. Copies are sent to all the Missions, and a copy is loaded to the CD tower in USAID/W. ADS authors must submit material for inclusion on the CD by certain dates (see the 2006 deadline chart for upcoming deadlines).
If you have questions about the CD, review the ADS CD Instructions or send an e-mail to ads@usaid.gov. To order a CD, complete the CD Order Form.

The ADS Times
The ADS Times, only available to USAID employees(http://inside.usaid.gov/ADS/adstimes/), is a monthly newsletter established to bring you the latest ADS news and answer your questions about the ADS. It is issued as an Information Notice to all employees every month. Send questions for inclusion in the FAQ section to ads@usaid.gov.
|
|
ADS Training
M/AS/IRD offers ADS training classes to all USAID personnel. See the ADS Training page, only available to USAID employees(http://inside.usaid.gov/ADS/adstrng.html), for more information.
