Castel Nuovo or better known as Maschio Angioino as all the cityzens call this monument, is an impressive casltle surrounded by towers overhanging the port area and the magnificent "Piazza del Municipio". It was rebuilt by Ferrante and Alfonso d'Aragona above the ruins of the elder Maschio Angioino (1279-1282) of which nowadays remain just the CAPPELLA PALATINA also known as Cappella di Santa Barbara. Gaetano Filangieri, who begun the work of restoration the last century, gave to this simble of the city of naples the modern aspect that is the same it had in the XV century.
