Welcome to the Network

Welcome to The Network - your first stop for information on waste education across Scotland. Whether you are looking for information on the latest educational resources, updates on policy or an overview of the national picture on waste education, the Network will bring you news, views and reviews on a regular basis.

Network Aims

It's good to talk! With this in mind, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has developed The Network. The Network aims to bring together waste practitioners from across Scotland and to encourage regular communication, coordination and networking opportunities.

Waste education and awareness-raising activities are taking place on a greater scale than ever before, yet it can be difficult to know what is happening, where, and how to become involved. Many exciting projects and initiatives are underway across Scotland, however, practitioners may be unaware of other projects and, as a result, may also have missed valuable opportunities to discuss problems and successes.

The Network has been designed to help overcome this problem by providing a means by which practitioners can keep in touch, share ideas, discuss problems and keep up-to-date with developments in waste education.

SEPA hopes The Network will provide valuable support to this growing sector by enabling waste education practitioners to work together and share experience and expertise: avoiding duplication of effort and helping to deliver consistent messaging on waste and resource-use issues.

Your Network

The Network will keep you up-to-date with developments in waste education, both at a national and a local level, in three ways:

The Network News - issued electronically every two months, The Network
News will provide you with information on waste education developments,
National Waste Plan progress, updates on policy and legislation, details
of forthcoming events, and news on funding and educational resources. In
addition, 'Your Network' will put the focus on developments in your
area. This section can also be used for members to put questions to the
entire Network, to share experiences and to pass on useful information.

Contact & Resource Database - a database of waste education practitioners is available on The Network site. The database provides contact details and information on projects, organisations and resources, ensuring you know what's happening where, when and why.

Network Events - Opportunities to get together and talk about progress are crucial to the success of any programme. The Network plans to host regular events, providing valuable opportunities to draw on the experience across the sector. This will include the annual Waste Aware workshop and topic-based events held throughout the year.
