Sexual Exploitation of Children

Below is a list of some of the services provided by the Exploited Child Unit.

  • ECU Analysts process reports received regarding the sexual exploitation of children through the CyberTipline and provide those leads to federal, state, local, and international law-enforcement agencies for further investigation.
  • ECU Analysts provide technical assistance to federal, state, local, and international law-enforcement agencies investigating child-sexual-exploitation cases.
  • ECU maintains a database of law-enforcement officers who have developed an expertise in investigating cases of child sexual exploitation. Currently the database consists of more than 4,800 law-enforcement contacts within the United States as well as many foreign countries.
  • ECU works collaboratively with two specialized units within the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (formerly U.S. Customs Service), U.S. Postal Inspection Service, U.S. Secret Service, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms regarding the leads received through the CyberTipline.
