Case Analysis and Leads Dissemination

NCMEC uses many data sources to analyze leads and identify patterns between cases from across the country. NCMEC can help assist cross-jurisdictional investigations by tying cases together and alerting investigators.
  • Through its national toll-free Hotline, NCMEC receives leads on missing children. These leads are analyzed and prioritized for investigators.
  • Leads are sent daily to investigators and a network of state missing children's clearinghouses for further dissemination to law-enforcement agencies.
  • NCMEC uses public and private databases to correlate lead information and develop additional suspect information.
  • NCMEC provides statistical analysis of our database of missing children and lead information.
  • NCMEC uses the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (NLETS) to communicate missing-child case information with law-enforcement agencies.
  • NCMEC receives reports of missing-child cases through the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
