Scariff village is on the scenic route of Lough
Derg Co Clare (western shore) and lies about 35 kms from
Limerick City and approx 48 kms from Shannon Airport.
WHERE TO FISH
Scariff is ideally located as a base
for the angler interested in fishing for Pike on
the western shores of Lough Derg or coarse fishing locally on the Scariff River
which can be very productive especially early in the year (April/May). It is
also within easy access of the EAST CLARE LAKES and other shore venues along the
western shores of the lake, MOUNTSHANNON and
KILLALOE. There is masses of
water on Lough Derg. For those more adventurous anglers, it is worth
hiring a boat and exploring the remote shores for large shoals of bream.
Or for those who have contacts to local landowners, private access
may be possible in a few places. Lakeland Holidays who offer Irish Tourist Board
Approved Caravan & Camping & Mobile Homes Accommodation nearby also
provide private access to their guests
to 1 km of shoreline at Mountshannon. Contact Tel: +353 61 927225 Fax: +353 61 927336 or Email

on a stretch of the Scariff River opposite the harbour called the Island.
Permission from Geraldine Moloney who provides this facility to guests using her
Bridge View (3 star) and Riverbank (4 star ) Cottages The Scariff
River meanders along in front of the cottages. The mouth of the Scariff river
which flows into Lough Derg frequently produces good catches of Bream, Roach,
Hybrids, Pike and Trout. All this is within walking distance of 13 pubs !. Scariff is a friendly place with all necessary amenities such as shops, pubs,
restaurants, bank etc. Boats can be hired locally. Bait and tackle is
also available.

ANGLING FEES
There is no rod licence required for coarse and pike fishing
on the River Shannon or Lough Derg.
However, as this part of the region lies south of Banagher
Bridge and is in the Lower Shannon Region, a voluntary fee in the form of a
Share Certificate is available to fish the area, payable to the Lower Shannon
Trout & Coarse Fisheries Development Society.
HOW WE RATE THE FISHING
The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board has undertaken
extensive research over recent years to bring you these guides. We endeavour to
rate angling according to importance of the target angling
species present, facilities and access on a fishery by fishery basis.
While we use certain fisheries and angling criteria to assess each fishery, the
rating system only purports to be a guideline designed to assist anglers
in planning a fishing trip to the region.
