Lough Na Blaithi is a 600-acre lake. The
lake is located 5 miles north of the town and is sign posted from
Strokestown. From the new fishing stands located on the
northwestern shore you can fish into 20 feet of water and the
lake holds good stocks of Bream, Roach, and Hybrids. The lake
also has a good stock of Tench to 3lbs+ and some rudd fishing is
available. The most prolific area for tench is the northern end
of the lake off the 20 single stands here. There is also a good
stock of Pike in the lake and there are regular reports of good
fish caught every year.
Access and Facilities
The Shannon Fisheries Board has erected 60 new
single fishing stands, access roadway and car park over the last
number of years with the aid of Tourism Angling Measure (T.A.M.)
funding. 40 of these stands are connected by a 600m continuous
catwalk on the northwestern shore of the lake, with the remaining
20 further in the public roadway on the same shoreline. Four of
these stands on the continuous catwalk have been erected in
accordance with guidelines set down by the national
rehabilitation board of Ireland and are suitable for use by
disabled anglers. For pike
fishing it is recommended that you launch your boat at facilities
located on the south western end of the lake.
