Alaska King Crab

Alaska King Crab

The 2005-2006 Bristol Bay red king crab season opened on October 15th.  In prior years, the season typically lasted only 3-5 days.  Recent changes in the way the fishery is managed have expanded the season to 3 months.  The new rules will allow fishermen much more discretion in when they catch their allotted crab quota.  The new rules should make this perilous fishery much safer, although the Alaska crab fleet is much smaller now.

The Bristol Bay crab (delivered live by the fishermen to coastal processors) has been cleaned & broken into clusters, cooked, and flash-frozen.  As usual, much of the crab this year was shipped directly to buyers in Japan, who have anticipated a great deal of Holiday demand.

We offer you ultra-high-quality Alaska red king crab, both the

Crab fishing in Alaska ranks as the nation's #1 most hazardous job. Brave crab fishermen work in harsh weather conditions and hazardous environments. Please view our king crab fishing gallery to get a close look at this dangerous job.

There are 3 species of king crab in Alaska - red, blue, and golden (brown). Red king crab is the most sought after. The meat is the sweetest, and the legs are always packed full. Please visit our King Crab 101 page to learn more about king crabs.
