College Advisers, faculty from various academic areas, can assist with academic options and with professional and career planning. ONE BOOK ONE NORTHWESTERN Othello Project
With the Department of English, Kaplan Humanities Institute, and Alumnae of Northwestern, Weinberg College will sponsor its first annual ONE BOOK/ONE NORTHWESTERN Othello Project. The entire Northwestern community will be encouraged to read the same book and see it come to life in its many incarnations and forms. Events will be held throughout the fall quarter.
Marjorie Garber, Lecture
Marjorie Garber, Chair of the Department of Visual and Environmental Studies Department at Harvard University and author of Shakespeare After All, will give a lecture on Thursday, October 5, 2006, at 7 pm in Harris Hall 107, 1881 Sheridan Road. An open reception will follow this free and public event, the kick-off event for The Othello Project.
Shozo Sato, "Othello in Kabuki Style"
On Saturday, October 28, at 7 pm (Venue TBD), Shozo Sato, Master of Japanese Arts, will present, "Othello in Kabuki Style," discussing the connections between Shakespeare's western text and Kabuki's eastern and Zen themes. A troupe of actors from Illinois State University will perform scenes from their production of Shozo Sato's Kabuki Othello, staged on the Bloomington-Normal Campus in November.
Wole Soyinka, "Othello's Dominion, Immigrant Domain"
African playwright and Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, will lecture on "Othello's Dominion, Immigrant Domain," Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at 5 pm in Harris Hall 107, 1881 Sheridan Road. An open reception will follow this free and public event.
