Overview:
Brigantine Lighthouse never actually had the opportunity to help ships find their way in the night. Though many believe that it was a working lighthouse to help rescue the many ships that have sunk due to the treacherous shoals found off the coast, the fact remains that it was

actually built as a sales tactic in 1926, hoping to attract visitors to this pretty shore town.

With the coming of the Depression, however, folks weren’t purchasing second homes and the lighthouse became the headquarters for the Brigantine police department.

In the 1940s, a museum and gift shop was created there but it soon fell into disrepair.

A group of concerned citizens finally refurbished it in 1995, and now it’s beautifully landscaped and lit each evening.

The Brigantine Lighthouse, which is now the city’s signature landmark, is an excellent place for a leisurely stroll or an afternoon family picnic.
