Emergency in Lebanon
After the UN-brokered ceasefire, the ICRC's key priority remains to reach the civilian population in villages and to ensure that all wounded are evacuated and all bodies are recovered, especially from collapsed buildings that were inaccessible during the fighting, a task that will be carried out primarily by the Lebanese Red Cross. The ICRC will concentrate on delivering water, food and drugs to civilians who have suffered – and continue to suffer – the direct consequences of the recent hostilities. (Help the ICRC) |

Sri Lanka: emergency assistance for the displaced
A ceasefire in February 2002 led to hopes for peace in Sri Lanka. Since the end of 2005, however, the situation has deteriorated and renewed fighting has claimed hundreds of lives and resulted in the displacement of tens of thousands of people.
The ICRC, in coordination with the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, is distributing shelter material and other emergency relief items to the newly displaced, improving water and sanitation facilities and providing support for medical services.(Help the ICRC) |
