America's Last Frontier

    Adventure Explore America's last great wild place. You're bound to experience the adventure of your life. The surrounding wilderness areas offer boating opportunities of all sorts. You have guided or unguided river rafting, canoeing, kayaking, jet skiing, motor boating or paddleboat pedaling. Also Alaska has monster halibut and all five species of pacific salmon, rainbow trout, char, and grayling.

    Alaska is known for the Northern Lights. They are glowing and look like dancing curtains of lights. Fall, winter and spring is the prime season for viewing. Sometimes they are barely visible or appear colorless and unmoving. At other times they are incredibly bright and fast moving.

Alaska's Scenic Routes

Alaskan Caribou (Rangifer tarandus) are distributed in 32 distinct herds. Preferring treeless tundra and mountains, these majestic even-toed ungulates, also known as reindeer, range through most of Alaska.

    You also have the Scenic Byways, The Seward Highway and the Glenn Highway. The drive south from Anchorage to Seward is incredible journey. You follow the Turnagain Arm, past Portage Glacier, through moose-rich meadows over the huge evergreen trees in Chugack National Forest down to the town of Seward. The Glenn Highway you drive north through Matanuska Susitina Valley. There are spectacular views of majestic and rugged landscape, crystals clear waterways, and tundra where moose and bear wander.

    Maybe you came north to Alaska to seek gold and adventure. There are several mining towns. Crow Creek Gold Mine and Indian Valley Mine. Once they were a tent citys in the wilderness, know blossomed into cities. Here folks can still pan for gold and learn about Alaska's pioneers.
