Conventional spin gear

Much of the salmon fishing done in Alaska is with conventional spin fishing gear to include level wind reels and medium heavy action rods spooled with 20-30lb test as when hooking King salmon upto 60lbs in fast current you need some meat behind you. Also in the summer and fall Chum Salmon and Silver Salmon are taken readily on spin fishing gear, a medium action7 1/2-8ft rod with a Daiwa  BG-15 reel spooled with 14 lb test is a good outfit for the middle sized Salmon. If planning on fishing in Alaska with conventional tackle please do yourself a favor and have fresh line put on all your reels and buy good quality ball bearing swivels as this is the weakest link and many a trophies have been lost due to cheap terminal tackle and old line.
