Episode 13: Dealing with the Press

October 2nd, 2006

While in Boston I had the chance to talk with Sally Khuadairi. She drew on her large range of experience working with the press to provide some practical advice for individuals and projects to assist with their press interactions. An interesting listen for everyone involved with an open source project.

Episode 12: Ken Coar Lightning Talk

September 25th, 2006

Resuming the posting of Lightning Talks from ApacheCon Europe, here’s one that a number of you have requested. It loses quite a bit to just have the audio and not see it, but it’s till quite fascinating. There’s just one in this episode, since it ran just a little long, and I didn’t want to edit anything out. You can see more of it in Noirin’s ApacheCon photos.

Here it is, roughly 8 minutes.

Episode 11: Axis2

September 18th, 2006

While at ApacheCon Asia last month, I had the opportunity to speak with Rajith Attapattu about Axis2. He had just given a presentation about it, and I had a few questions about how things all fit together. Axis2 is the hub of the web services projects, with various other products plugging into Axis2 to provide various services.

The interview is HERE and is about 13 minutes long.

Finally, a reminder that we’re going to be at ApacheCon, and you should too.

Episode 10: Austin Preview

September 5th, 2006

With just over a month before ApacheCon US starts we bring you a preview of Austin. We were lucky to talk with Jeff Loukas who gives us a flavour of what to expect. He has also written a short guide to Austin with even more information! Thanks jeff!

We look forward to seeing everyone in Austin!

Topics for Discussion?

September 4th, 2006

One of the things we’d like to try at ApacheCon US is getting people together for some “table discussions”. Essentially we’d like to get people in the know about a topic together, sitting at a table and ask them to discuss a topic! Hardly an original idea, but as the discussions are usually lively at ApacheCon it could prove interesting!

While we can come up with a few topics, anyone care to suggest topics they’d like to hear discussed? If you have thoughts about who you’d like to have involved in the discussion you can include their names in the posting and we’ll see what we can do.

Why not post a comment with your ideas now?

Feathercast Merchandise

September 1st, 2006

Now that we have a new logo and a new look, we also have some feathercast merchandise available via CafePress. The main aim of feathercast is educational, not profit, but money made from the sale of the items will allow us to improve our equipment. Hopefully this will lead to better quality podcasts!

We will also be donating some of the money we make from selling items to the Apache Software Foundation.

Why not go and have a look at our store now?

Episode 9: ApacheCon Asia and GeekOut

August 25th, 2006

ApacheCon Asia was, in my estimation, a big success, and I’m so glad I got to go. I was also able to attend a post-conference event called the GeekOut, where we went out into the jung.le and got our blood sucked out by leeches, among other fantastic experiences.

Here’s some of my thoughts on the conference, as well as some remarks on the GeekOut. The recording is HERE, and is roughly 5 minutes long.

The music is from a traditional dance group at the closing ceremonies of the conference.

You can see photos from ApacheCon and GeekOut on flickr.com by looking for tags like apacheconasia06 and geekout srilanka.

Episode 8: Lightning Talks

August 14th, 2006

The Lightning Lottery Talks are a fixture at ApacheCon, with talks ranging from “What’s on Ken’s Belt?” to “Shared Ant”. There’s always a good mix of entertaining talks and technical talks, and the speaker pool includes seasoned public speakers and first-time speakers enjoying their opportunity for a moment at the mic.

Over the next few months, we’ll be running almost all of the lightning talks from ApacheCon Europe, and in this first one of the Lightning Episodes, you’ll hear Leo Simons, teaching us how to give a lightning talk, and Johan Stuyts talking about Shared Ant, a build environment for collaborate development.

The music in the intro and at the end is Colm McCarthaigh again, playing “Lakes of Pontchartrain.”

The recording is HERE, and is roughly 12 minutes long.
