Family Member Employment
Like American families everywhere, many in the Foreign Service are two-income families. When overseas, some family members find work at the Embassy or Consulate, some find employment on the economy of the host country, while others freelance or manage a home-based business. Telework is also an option for relocating family members. To increase opportunities for family member employment, the Family Liaison Office facilitates negotiation of bilateral work agreements. FLO also coordinates functional training for spouses and provides Foreign Service-specific employment information. Click on the category below that best meets your employment needs. For family members seeking employment in the Washington, D. C. area, FLO publishes a monthly web-based newsletter offering a broad listing of employment opportunities.
