VAL GARDENA
Val Gardena is one of the resorts that will celebrate the new season not only on the opening day, but for a whole week (and the first day - 3rd of December, lifts will be for free!)
The "Garden Valley"
Val Gardena has golden history due to its ski champions; today it is still a popular meeting point of the world's ski elite.
With its connection to Dolomiti Superski, the world's largest ski carousel and the nearby Alpe di Siusi, it is one of the "Meccas" for all winter sports lovers.
Having the Dolomiti Superski pass you can access all lift services in the Dolomites. A variety of categories - from low to very steep pistes; easy and extreme downhill runs can satisfy even the pickiest ski lover. The most modern lift facilities combine with traditional Alpine atmosphere (of huts and chalets) to take care of your full-quality experience. This year's surprise of Val Gardena are the "Val Gardena Christmas Weekends", which will include exhibitions of wood-carved cribs, Christmas fair of the sheltered workshop, Val Gardena Christmas market, and other activities.
Three very interesting (and not very easy) downhill ski-tours are offered:
- Forcella del Pordoi - Val Mezdi - Val Lasties
- Forcella del Sassolungo
- Ski tour to Forcella Mezdi
In Val Gardena the total length of pistes is 175 km. The lovers of cross-country skiing will be pleasantly surprised for there are as much as 98 km of cross country slopes. The uphill transportation lifts are 81.
Besides, Val Gardena is part of the "Dolomiti-Superki", the biggest ski caroussel of the Alps with a total of more than 450 transportation devices and the stunning 1220 km of slopes. The approximate distribution of level is the following: easy - 30%; intermediate - 60%, difficult - 10%. 150 km of the complex are artificially guaranteed by canons.
Ski mountaineering in the Dolomites is something unique and special. There are plenty of choices for the routes, but most will offer you a combination of breath-taking views, relatively short ascents (sometimes using for a while lift), and downhill runs through hard terrain, with narrow gullies and steep areas.
We highly recommend the services of a local experienced mountain and ski guides, for no ski patrols operate off the marked tracks, and if you leave them you do so at your own risk.
Teachers from Val Gardena's ski schools have designed a rich variety of programmes for the winter season: courses in carving, mountaineering, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, competitions, ski-guided trips and other custom-made tutoring. There are 3 levels of skill - programmes for children, amateur and expert skiers.
Also there are 2 new lifts - one detachable and one 4-seat.
The after-ski facilities are more than sufficient for having a good-time - cozy huts, chalets where you can always drink a hot cup of tea or South Tyrolean wine; there are numerous bars, pubs and disco clubs for those of you with flair for dancing.
Val Gardena will proudly host the World Cup Races for men between 15th and 18th of December 2005.
For the kids and grown-up kids Val Gardena offers wonderful opportunity for tobogganing - from the top station of the Rasciesa chair lift in Ortisei, a well-prepared toboggan run (about 8 km long) takes you down into the valley. The Alpe di Siusi also offers numerous beautiful toboggan runs.
