Privacy Impact Assessments
A Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) is an evaluation of how personally identifiable information is collected, stored, protected, shared and managed by agency systems. PIAs are required by the E-Government Act of 2002 when developing or buying information technology systems that contain information about members of the public. PIAs are also required when an existing system changes in ways that impact privacy. It is our intent to evaluate the impacts of our systems on privacy and to consciously incorporate privacy protections where possible to mitigate privacy risks.
