| About Drive BC |
Drive BC is the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation's new traveller information system, designed to help motorists plan their trips along the provincial highway network. Drive BC provides motorists timely road condition and incident information that is updated regularly as highway conditions change.
Drive BC provides road condition and incident information collected by the government and road and bridge maintenance contractor staff responsible for maintaining the provincial highway network. Regularly updated information about provincial highway conditions is provided based on the conditions that maintenance contractor staff encounter while performing highway maintenance.
It should be noted that severe weather, sudden temperature changes and snow or rainfall can cause road conditions to change rapidly. For this reason, the information provided on this site may not reflect changes that have taken place since the last update of the Drive BC web site. Neither the ministry nor its maintenance contractors are responsible for differences between current conditions and conditions noted at the time this information was entered. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution at all times.

| Planning to Travel? |
Drive BC is a flexible, easy to use system allowing travelers to quickly access road condition and incident information on routes along the provincial highway network. There are two ways for travelers to access this information: a map view and a list view.
1. Map View
Drive BC's map view is its default format. Simply click on the map to zoom in on any area of the province. Pan in any direction by clicking on the direction arrows or zoom out (or in) again by clicking on the zoom buttons. A legend is provided describing what information is presented. Information relating to a specific point on a highway is represented using an icon only, while
information that relates to a stretch along a highway is represented using both an icon and the color coding as described in the legend. In either case, you can simply click on an icon to get details about the nature and location of that incident or road condition.
Not interested in a certain type(s) of information? Simply uncheck the appropriate 'layers' box on the right hand side of the layers legend and then update the map!
What Types Of Information Does The Map Provide? |
Current Events |
Current Events refer to all events that are currently 'active' along the provincial highway network. Types of current events include: |
• |
Road Conditions are indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon provide details of the present condition of the road(for example flooding, slippery sections or compact snow, etc.).
• |
Incidents are indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon provides details on incidents affecting traffic at that location.
• |
Current Planned Events are indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon provides details of all events that are presently in progress, such as maintenance or construction work, special events, etc.
Future Planned Events |
• |
Future Planned Events are indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon provides details of events scheduled to occur at a specific future time and location on the provincial highway network, such as maintenance or construction work, special events, etc.
Cameras |
• |
Cameras are indicated by the icon on the map. Clicking on the icon will provide a photo of the stretch of highway where the camera is located. These photos are refreshed regularly.
The number and locations of cameras continues to expand throughout the province. As this expansion continues, the number of cameras listed on the map will also continue to grow.
2. List View
A second format, the List View provides the same detail of road condition and incident information in a list (and print friendly) format. The list view is most like the format of the previous system, Road Reports. Drive BC provides the traveller with a number of list options including:
• |
All Major Events in the province |
• |
Events and/or Conditions by Route (choose up to four!) |
• |
Events and/or Conditions by Area |
• |
Events and/or Conditions by Popular Route |
The list view presents the information using three tabs, one for Current Events, one for Planned Events and one to return to the Map View.
The events are listed in the following order:
• |
Events affecting both directions of the highway |
• |
Events affecting eastbound or northbound travel |
• |
Events affecting westbound or southbound travel |
When reviewing the list, look at the events listed in both directions and those listed in the direction you plan to travel to get a complete picture of events on your route.
