Serving Sizes

Serving salmon steaks is easy. In almost all entrees, 1 steak per person is customary. And for fillets, about 1/3 to 1/2 pound per person is a good portion size.

Storing and Thawing

To thaw fresh-frozen salmon steaks, place them in refrigerator for a day. Because they are vacuum-sealed you can also run cold water over sealed fillets or steaks to speed up the thawing process. Quickly rinse salmon prior to preparing it. Left-over salmon should be refrigerated and used within a couple of days.

Packaging and Portion Sizes

Our Sockeye salmon fillets are flash-frozen and individually vacuum-sealed for your convenience. They can be stored in your freezer for several months. Fillets are boneless, and range from 1/3 to 1 lb. packages. Full-size fillets are often available during the summer months as well.

Boneless Fillets - Pin Bone Out

Fillets are deboned with our pinbone machine, then examined by trained inspectors.  We do our best to remove all bones, "so that you don't have to". However, it is possible that we could miss a bone.

Fishing Seasons

Sockeye salmon is the first seasonal salmon caught every summer. They are rushed to fish markets and celebrated throughout the Northwest. Sockeye salmon are caught with careful handling and are kept fresh by "icing them down" until they are either processed and frozen, or sold in fresh markets.

Availability

Alaska Sockeye Salmon is available all year long. Along with fresh markets during the summer, you can find quality processed sockeye salmon fillets and steaks that have been well handled and are perfect for stocking freezers with. Today's commercial freezing and packaging methods allow salmon to be kept frozen for long periods of time, yet still retaining its quality.
