(Houston) Feb. 1, 2006 — Vinson & Elkins LLP has been named one of the "50 Best Companies to Work for in Texas," marking the second time in less than a year that the law firm has been recognized as one of the state's top employers.
 
The award was given to the firm by Best Companies Group, in conjunction with Texas Monthly magazine, the Texas Association of Business, and the Society for Human Resource Management - Texas State Council.
 
Companies that made the first-annual list — which was designed to recognize employers who make it a priority to create better workplaces for their employees — were selected based on an assessment of their employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey.
 
The list was published in the February 2006 issue of Texas Monthly, and winners will be recognized at an awards luncheon to be held in Austin on Feb. 8. Texas Gov. Rick Perry will speak at the ceremony.

Best Companies Group is an independent organization that initiated the program in Texas to motivate companies to focus, measure and move their workplace environments toward excellence. The program has been implemented in 15 states by the group.
 
In October, V&E; was also named one of the "Best Places to Work" in Houston by the Houston Business Journal. The firm was one of only 10 companies with 500 or more employees to receive the honor.

V&E; employs nearly 1,400 attorneys and staff in Texas.
