Vinson & Elkins has the most lawyers in the nation listed in the practice areas of Antitrust, Corporate, Energy, Health Care, International Arbitration, International Trade and Finance, and Public Finance Law in the 2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Further, the firm has more lawyers named in the guide than any other Texas-based firm as well as the most lawyers listed in Antitrust, Commercial Litigation, Corporate, Employee Benefits, Energy, Health Care, International Arbitration, International Trade and Finance, Natural Resources, Public Finance, and Tax Law in the state of Texas. Burton Award for Legal Achievement
|
Vinson & Elkins is the proud recipient of a 2005 Burton Award for Legal Achievement for “A Jury of One’s Peers,” written by Dallas partner Rob Walters and Senior Communications Counsel Mark Curriden and published in the Fall 2004 issue of the ABA Judges’ Journal. The article discusses the V&E; Pro Bono Jury Project, a multi-faceted effort that strives to increase public participation and diversity in the jury system and to revive the Constitutional guarantee that citizens are entitled to be tried by juries of their peers.
The Burton Foundation, the first national program dedicated to refining and enriching legal writing, instituted the Burton Awards in 2000 to honor law firm partners and law school students who use plain, modern language and avoid archaic, stilted legalese.

Over 90 companies were interviewed and a total of 380 law firms named of “primary” outside counsel in the areas of corporate transactions, litigation, labor and employment, and intellectual property.

National Law Journal

A V&E; case, Fluor Enterprises vs. Solutia Inc. was featured in the National Law Journal's "NLJ 100" list of the largest verdicts of 2002. A federal jury in Houston returned a $34.5 million verdict in favor of the plaintiff, Fluor Enterprises, for alleged cost overruns in the construction of a Gulf Coast chemical plant. The case was subsequently settled in mediation in the client's favor.

Texas Monthly

The October 2006 issue of Texas Monthly magazine names 107 V&E; lawyers as Texas Super Lawyers. This prestigious list represents the top five percent of lawyers in the state. The results were compiled from more than 66,000 ballots distributed to lawyers across Texas. Polled lawyers were asked to nominate the best of their peers, based on first-hand knowledge. The final results list attorneys in more than 60 areas of practice.

Vinson & Elkins is named to the 2006 "Defense Hot List" by The National Law Journal. V&E;'s result in the KPMG case, U.S. v. Stein, is the first mention in the "Ready and willing to fight back" article; and is further highlighted in a follow-up article, "Defense bar smells blood," quoting Washington partner Craig Margolis. Other V&E; noteworthy cases featured in the "Defense Hot List" section are Geers v. Wyeth, led by Houston partners Pat Mizell and Kat Gallagher, and Yeroushalmi v.
