Austin Business Journal
Vinson & Elkins had more registered Intellectual Property lawyers (individuals who have passed the Patent Bar) listed in the May 2005 Intellectual Property Law Firms list in the Austin Business Journal than any other firm in Austin.  V&E; placed third for number of attorneys practicing IP law.  The survey is based on number of attorneys handling Intellectual Property work in the Austin area.


Best Lawyers in America

Vinson & Elkins has the most lawyers in the nation listed in the practice areas of Antitrust, Corporate, Energy, Health Care, International Arbitration, International Trade and Finance, and Public Finance Law in the 2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America. Further, the firm has more lawyers named in the guide than any other Texas-based firm as well as the most lawyers listed in Antitrust, Commercial Litigation, Corporate, Employee Benefits, Energy, Health Care, International Arbitration, International Trade and Finance, Natural Resources, Public Finance, and Tax Law in the state of Texas.  The 2006 guide, considered by both the legal profession and corporate in-house counsel as a leading resource for legal excellence, lists 166 Vinson & Elkins lawyers.  Forty-six of these lawyers have been listed at least 10 years.  Eight firm lawyers have been listed at least 20 years.

The Best Lawyers in America lists attorneys in 52 specialty areas who have been chosen through an exhaustive and confidential survey of the nation's top lawyers. The 2006 Best Lawyers edition is based on more than 1.5 million  peer evaluations. The new edition marks the first annual publication of Best Lawyers in America, which has previously been published biennially.

Best of the Best
Euromoney's Best of the Best 2004 Expert Guide named four V&E; partners in its list of the 25 best Energy and Natural Resource lawyers in the world.  No other law firm had more than two lawyers listed in the guide.  This again demonstrates the depth of V&E;'s Energy Practice, which includes over 400 lawyers in 10 offices worldwide.


Burton Award for Legal Achievement
Vinson & Elkins is the proud recipient of a 2005 Burton Award for Legal Achievement for “A Jury of One’s Peers,” written by Dallas partner Rob Walters and Senior Communications Counsel Mark Curriden and published in the Fall 2004 issue of the ABA Judges’ Journal.  The article discusses the V&E; Pro Bono Jury Project, a multi-faceted effort that strives to increase public participation and diversity in the jury system and to revive the Constitutional guarantee that citizens are entitled to be tried by juries of their peers.

The Burton Foundation, the first national program dedicated to refining and enriching legal writing, instituted the Burton Awards in 2000 to honor law firm partners and law school students who use plain, modern language and avoid archaic, stilted legalese.


Chambers Global
Vinson & Elkins is named "U.S.A. Energy Law Firm of the Year" by Chambers and Partners at the 2005 Chambers Global Awards.

Selecting V&E; over the eight other short-listed firms, Chambers commented, "Consistently recognized by client surveys and major publications for its global leadership in the energy sector, the firm was a key adviser on several multibillion-dollar transactions in the US in 2004."  V&E; was also one of nine firms short-listed for "U.S.A. Nightingale's Healthcare News
Nightingale’s Healthcare News listed Vinson & Elkins as having the fourth largest Healthcare practice in the nation in its 2005 Special Report that also highlights Dennis BarryDennis DunnGary EilandJ.D. EpsteinMichael Malone, and Elizabeth Rogers as Senior Partners.  V&E; is the only Texas-based firm listed in this year’s report and is up from its seventh largest placement in 2004.  Results of the report are based on those practices in which lawyers spend 50% or more of their time on healthcare matters or clients.

Additionally, Vinson & Elkins partner Joe Lynch was named one of ten “Outstanding Physician Practice Lawyers – 2005” and V&E; attorney B. Scott McBride was named one of twelve “Outstanding Fraud & Compliance Lawyers – 2005” by Nightingale’s.

Texas Monthly

The October 2006 issue of Texas Monthly magazine names 107 V&E; lawyers as Texas Super Lawyers. This prestigious list represents the top five percent of lawyers in the state. The results were compiled from more than 66,000 ballots distributed to lawyers across Texas. Polled lawyers were asked to nominate the best of their peers, based on first-hand knowledge. The final results list attorneys in more than 60 areas of practice.
