Biography
Alex is a partner based in the firm's London office and is a member of the firm's worldwide Project Finance and Development Practice Group.
Alex has extensive experience of a broad range of energy-related projects and transactions, acting for buyers, sellers, developers, lenders, governments, regulators, and publicly, privately and state-owned companies. Alex has particular expertise in energy M&A;, in oil and gas transactions, in African energy projects and in the UK and European power sector.

Experience
Mergers and Acquisitions- Represented a major energy company in connection with the proposed acquisition (in joint venture with financial investors) of the 4,000 MW Drax coal-fired power plant, the largest coal-fired power station in the UK, for a consideration of approximately $4 billion
- Led the team advising on the successful sale of the Enfield 400 MW combined-cycle gas turbine power project in London, including vendor due diligence, drafting and negotiating the sale and purchase documentation and arranging for repayment of all project finance debt
- Advising a major corporation on its proposed acquisition (for a possible purchase price of approximately US$1 billion) of 100 per cent of the equity in the Saltend 1200 MW combined heat and power project located in the north of England
- Advising a global chemicals company on the successful acquisition of a worldwide textile effects business with operations in more than 60 countries
- Represents European energy companies on the acquisition and development of windfarms in the U.K.
Project Development & Finance- Representing a European energy company on the development of a major LNG plant in West Africa, including the acquisition of upstream natural gas reserves and the development of onshore liquefaction facilities and associated infrastructure
- Represents a multinational telecommunications company in the $500+ million financing of new infrastructure in Nigeria secured by offshore oil reserves
- Advising a U.K. energy company on the development and financing of offshore gas fields in the Republic of Ireland, including drafting and negotiating gas sales arrangements, advising on gas transportation and regulation, and negotiating project financing and security documentation
- Represented an electricity utility in Croatia on one of the first independent power projects in the country, including assisting in the preparation of the RFP, PPA and government support package, negotiating documentation with possible participants and evaluating proposals
- Represented a major energy company on the development of power generation projects in West Africa, including advising on, drafting, and negotiating power purchase, interconnection, fuel supply, and government support arrangements
- Represented a U.S. power corporation on the development of U.K. and European power generation projects, including structuring, negotiating, and drafting fuel supply arrangements [Previous firm
- Advised a global energy company on gas transportation arrangements relating to development of a major project in India
- Represents numerous project developers in the acquisition and sale of interests in project companies in the U.K., Africa, Europe and the Middle East and advises energy companies in the completion of various syndicated and bilateral credit, trade finance, and project finance facilities
- Advised, as part of a team, the U.K. electricity regulator on the implementation of new electricity trading arrangements in England and the reform of the electricity pool
Oil & Gas- Advising a major European energy company on the proposed acquisition of offshore oil and gas assets in Nigeria with a value in excess of $2 billion
- Advising an international oil and gas company on the signed acquisition of producing North Sea assets with a value in excess of $400 million
- Advising a major energy company on the drafting and negotiation of production sharing contracts and joint operating agreements relating to blocks in the Nigeria/Sao Tome Joint Development Zone
- Advising a major international energy company on the drafting and negotiation of joint operating agreements and production sharing contracts relating to ultra-deepwater blocks in Nigeria
- Representing a major Asian oil company on the proposed acquisition of offshore oil and gas interests on the Nigeria-Cameroon border, including full due diligence and analysis of issues surrounding the Nigeria-Cameroon border dispute
- Advising a major European energy company on the proposed acquisition of a company holding oil and gas assets located in Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea
- Representation of a Canadian energy company in the successful acquisition of interests in Nigerian offshore oil and gas assets, together with the drafting and negotiation of joint operating agreements and associated documentation
- Assisted in advising the main U.K. gas transporter in all its key commercial, contractual and regulatory arrangements for the transmission of gas by pipeline
- Advises numerous energy companies in the acquisition and disposal of oil and gas assets in the North Sea, Africa and Middle East
