Biography
James is a member of the firm's worldwide Project Finance and Development Practice Group and has experience working for a number of industry clients in the upstream oil and gas sector in the U.K., CIS, Middle East and Asia. He advises on energy projects and regulatory matters and has particular experience in work involving LNG and oil and gas pipelines.

LNG - Represented an international consortium in the negotiation of an LNG sales agreement for deliveries of LNG from South East Asia to Baja California, Mexico
- Advised on various long-term and master spot LNG sale and purchase agreements for a Middle Eastern national gas company
- Represented a Nigerian project company during marketing meetings for future sales of LNG
- Advised an international services company on an internal audit and related international regulatory investigations into its LNG business activities in Nigeria. Included representation of the company's employee before the Nigerian House of Representatives Investigatory Committee
- Advised a U.S. energy company on conflict of law issues in Equatorial Guinea
- Advised a Japanese trading company on the refinancing of its co-financiers share of the financing of an LNG project in the Middle East
Pipelines - Advised an international oil company on various issues in relation to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium Project
- Represented the member of the EPC contractor consortium responsible for the procurement and supply of line pipe for a pipeline through the Black Sea
- Advised a U.S. energy company on regulatory issues arising from a proposed open access pipeline linking the Norwegian Continental Shelf to the Bacton Terminal
Upstream Oil and Gas - Assisted BG International Limited during negotiations of the exploration and production sharing agreement executed with the Government of the Sultanate of Oman for Block 60 onshore the Sultanate of Oman
- Advised an international gas company on proposed areas of co-operation along the whole of the gas value chain with a national gas company
- Advised on the US$300 million placing and admission on the Alternative Investment Market of the London Stock Exchange of a special purpose acquisition company, formed to invest in the oil and gas industry
- Advised a European energy company on the proposed acquisition of a PSC interest offshore Nigeria, for a proposed aggregate purchase price in excess of US$1 billion
- Advised an Asian energy company on the attempted purchase of half of a UK energy company's interest in the North Caspian Sea Project in Kazakhstan
- Represented a U.S. independent oil company in the unitization and joint development of five North sea fields within the Easington Catchment Area
- Advised an independent oil and gas company on the proposed sale of oil and gas concession interests in the Gulf of Thailand
- Represented a Japanese energy company on the purchase of two companies with interests in two North Sea oil and gas fields
- Represented an independent oil and gas company during the negotiation of reservations of certain petroleum exploration blocks in Libya
- Advised an independent U.S. oil company on disputed carry arrangements in Kazakhstan
- Advised a Japanese trading company on take or pay arrangements for natural gas from a project in South East Asia
- Advised an independent U.S. oil company on its withdrawal from oil exploration operations in the Falkland Islands
- Advised a Japanese trading company on a gas development project in Algeria
Nuclear and Mining - Advised a Japanese trading company on the proposed assignment of various joint venture arrangements over uranium mining interests in Canada
- Advised a Japanese trading company on the restructuring of the financing of a chrome mining project in South Africa
- Advised a Japanese trading company on uranium trading arrangements
- Represented a Japanese trading company on the recovery of a debt owing from a copper-producing project in Mongolia
Regulatory and Infrastructure - Represented an Eastern European Government on a proposed long-term wastewater concession agreement
- Advised the company which administers the New Electricity Trading Arrangements, on modifications to such arrangements which were introduced in the restructuring of the wholesale electricity market in England and Wales
- Conducted due diligence on an Indian public sector undertaking and negotiated relevant purchase agreements for the attempted acquisition by a Middle Eastern national oil company
