I was sponsored by V&E; for a six week internship at the ARC of Texas. I researched best practices for "Transition Services" that aid high school students to prepare to live independently and be employed as well as participated in the discovery phase of a lawsuit to end the waiting list for Texans with disabilities who desire community services. It has been an interesting and rewarding experience.
I will work with the Arc of Texas for six weeks this summer. The Arc of Texas monitors local, state, and national issues that impact the lives of people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. They work closely with legislators, government agencies, and school systems to improve the quality of supports and services for people with disabilities.
One of the reasons I went to law school and volunteer with this organization is because I wanted to be a better advocate for my daughter who has Down’s Syndrome.
