Last summer, I participated in the Vinson & Elkins public interest split. I spent the first six weeks of the summer in the Litigation and Employment Litigation departments in the Dallas office and the next six weeks working in the Family Law Division for Legal Aid North West Texas. While at Legal Aid, I worked on divorce cases, custody hearings and talked with clients during the intake at a local women's shelter.

V&E; is one of the only law firms in the country that compensates six weeks of public interest work at a summer associate level. It is a testament to V&E;'s commitment to pro bono work, which I found to be impressive not only through this program but also through the pro bono projects that V&E; lawyers undertake. This V&E; program was an amazing opportunity for clerks interested in public interest work.
