Fishing Reports, Latest Detailed Saltwater Fishing Reports

Fishing reports for saltwater anglers submitted by sportsmen that know their fishing. We receive detailed saltwater and freshwater fishing reports from average anglers, charter boat Captains, and experienced fishing guides. We pass these reports on to you as soon as we receive them so you can rest assured that your fishing infirmation is up-to-date and current. We know a fishing report of what an angler caught yesterday may not help you catch the same species of fish today because fish move, the bite changes, and water conditions can change dramatically. But a good detailed fishing report can give you a general idea of where the fish are biting and what lures or tackle they might be hitting.

We currently receive reports and forecasts for most saltwater cities that would include well known localities or "fishing holes" that you here about all the time. We receive Chesapeake Bay fishing reports for Maryland and Virginia, North Carolina fishing reports in the Outer Banks which includes Cape Hatteras Island, Ocracoke, Atlantic and Topsail Beach NC and that's just a small sample as we have reports from Florida's Fort Pierce to Alask'a Kenai Peninsula. So check back daily for your regions up-to-date report and remember if your region isn't posted please post your own fishing report for your home town.

Fishing reports for TX NC SC MD VA NJ, Chesapeake Bay fishing reports The most recent saltwater fishing reports are shown first. These are the latest fishing reports for the all categories list. We carry deep sea and saltwater sport fishing reports for all inshore and offshore coastal regions. If you do not see a report for your region it just means we don't have any reporters for that area which also means you would be the first so please feel free to post a report for your fishing region.

Fishing Report:

Simply Wow! Marlin Jumping in October!

A strong week for Marlin and Sailfishing on the Central Pacific coast of Costa Rica. Four or more boats sailed out of the port of Quepos Costa Rica, everyday of Columbus week, and all had luck.

For the week, a very satisfying 13 Marlin, an incredible 20 Sailfish, 16 Tuna and 10 Dorado, were caught. The numbers for Marlin and Sailfish are abnormaly high, this may be due to the very weak rainy season Costa Rica is having, and may explain why the Dorado numbers are so low.

Fishing Report: In the first report for October, we started out with a bang and I thought I caught the last of it for this month. But as we continued fishing, the bite continued and grew hotter, going on for almost 3 weeks now. Of course I'm talking about the Swordfish bite.

Closer to shore, not much has been going on with the exception of a good Snook and Tarpon bite heating up as the schools of Mullet start moving through in there enormous pods. There are other predators also like the Jack crevalle, Barracuda, and even some grouper that are sabatoging these schools.

In the usual zone from 70 to 350 feet there is somewhat of a bite with the occasional Dolphin schools coming through and a few Kingfish and Bonito. The nice fish are still holding to the north a bit but will start pushing south as the Autumn weather comes through.

Back to whats really happening in the Swordfish bite, we made it out 3 trips In the past 10 nights. We had great action each night. Our first night to break the ice was Thursday the night after the Swordfish tournament. The weather wasn't fishable for the past 6 days prior because we had a strong Northeast windkicking over 25-30 knots steady. Thursday night the wind died just enough at 15 knots or so and we were able to get out with Curtis Beers. The seas weren't as bad as we thought so we were even more confident to put Curtis on some fish. We did 2 drifts. On the first drift we caught 4 fish and released 3 of them. We

Fishing Report: Swordfishing this past week and weekend was on fire. The wind blew from the NE at 15 - 20mph most of the week, but when it calmed down, the fish were out there waiting. There were two swordfish tournaments this past weekend.

I did not fish them since I was already booked months prior before any of the tournament dates were announced. I believe there were over 100 swordfish caught in one tournament that 78 boats registered. There were at least two fish over 300 pounds caught in those tourneys. The bite was definitely going off.

We swordfished three times last week. The first night we caught 5 with the largest at 130 pounds. We tried to catch one on fly that night, but all our bites came on the deep lines. We fished with a 5 time MET Master Angler and it was a pleasure to see how a very good angler plays out these fish.

As I tell most anglers, you can’t out muscle these fish, but you need to outsmart them and to take full advantage when they give you the opportunity. That is exactly what this guy did and it worked out great as he never missed a fish. The second night we caught two and released one more. We also had three other fish on, but managed to pull them off. Out of the ones we missed, one of them we had on for a few minutes that was grey hounding all over the place.

This fish looked every bit of 250 pounds and it was quite the sight to see a fish of that size jumping in the moonlight. Although we

Fishing Report: First, let me apologize for my lack of reports these last few weeks. I was landlocked by some minor surgery. Nonetheless, I am back on the water, and my adventures this week were very productive.

The mullet run is now, and I say now, in full swing. If you have been waiting for the heat to dissipate and the bite to improve, don’t wait any longer. The mullet are as thick as I have ever seen them, and the predators are going off on them in all areas of the Lagoon Coast.

Along the beaches, the baits schools are pushing south, and good reports of snook, flounder, redfish, ladyfish, blues, jacks, Spanish mackerel, sharks and tarpon have been coming in from anglers from Playlinda to Sebastian. Try throwing top water plugs like Bombers and Wind Cheaters, or sub-surface baits like the DOA Bait Buster in close along the edge of the surf. Concentrate your efforts in areas of bait pods, and if the artificial bait fails to produce, net yourself some finger mullet, and fish them in close to the surf’s edge.

In the Lagoon, focus on areas where baits schools are passing close to shorelines and alone the causeways, and work top water plugs like the Storm Chug-Bug or the Rapala Skitterwalk. If conditions are not suitable for the top-water bite, chunking live finger mullet or ladyfish chunks are effective.

On Tuesday, I ventured into the No-Motor Zone with my good friends Larry Carter and Don Schrier, and the top-water

Fishing Report: Anglers fishing with me on the Snook Fin-Addict, out of CB’s Saltwater Outfitters on Siesta Key, caught and released snook, trout, reds, crevalle jacks and bluefish during the past couple of weeks. The best action was snook fishing around lighted docks and bridge fenders before daylight with a fly. Also, jacks and bluefish are schooling, providing fast action on deep grass flats.

Orvis rep Robert Bryant, from Greensboro, NC, snook fished with me before daylight on Thursday, Oct. 5. We caught and released more than 15 snook to 25” on my Grass Minnow snook fly between Blackburn Pt. and the Venice Inlet. Orvis has kindly donated a new Zero Gravity 8 wt. fly rod, which will be the top prize in the “Fall Fly Fishing Challenge” next weekend.

Fishing was tough on the weekend of Oct. 7 & 8. With a full moon on Oct. 6th, fish didn’t feed very well on shallow flats during daylight. Large tarpon were busting bait schools one day near the mouth of the Peace and Myakka Rivers but mostly ignored us. We did get a couple of bites, one on a DOA Baitbuster and another on a CAL jig with a jerk worm, but didn’t hook up. We did, however, catch and release trout, jacks and ladyfish with flies and jigs on deep grass flats of the Terra Ceia area and in Gasparilla Sound.

970 WFLA’s, Capt. Mel Berman, joined me for a trip in Sarasota Bay on Thursday, Oct. 12th. The water looked good from New Pass all the way to Long Bar, but nothing was happening. The

Fishing Report: Everglades Excursion

I have to apologize for a lapse in my reports. I have been on the road attending various fishing shows all over the state and have not been fishing nearly enough. However, the fishing I have had has been quality fishing time.

I went a day early and stayed a day later after the Miami Florida Sportsman Fishing Show and fished with my good friend Capt. Pat Kelly out of Everglades City. Capt. Pat is president of the Florida Guides Association. This was my first trip to the “glades”, and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I towed my Pathfinder to the site and loaded it with the equipment suggested by Pat. The main thing was a sturdy rod with a strong backbone. The target fish was snook and the preferred bait was live mullet.

Given my home fishing grounds in the Indian and Banana Rivers I was not use to paying a lot of attention to the tides but in the Everglades you to have to be very attendant to the tides in terms of when you go out or come back to dock as well as when you fish. Capt. Pat already had that all figured out and we left the dock with plenty of water under the Pathfinder. We cruised on out several miles to a favorite island to net some mullet. The wind was high and the water discolored, making it hard to spot the sought after bait fish. But not to worry, Capt. Pat simply knew where to go and after a few, basically blind, casts we had enough mullet to go fishing.

To my surprise, the

REPORT #1032 “Below the Border” Saltwater Fly-Fishing reports since 1996
Endless Season Update 10/14/06

Magdalena Bay, Baja Mexico

Toward the end of the week offshore reports were that the dorado were as thick as tortilla chips at the guacamole bowl, but few marlin. Earlier in the week however, there was a good show of marlin at 45/35 about 45 miles from Lopez Mateos. Unfortunately they seemed pretty lethargic.

Earlier this past week, Lance Peterson guided Sam and Janet Farish, Atlanta, GA, at Loreto and this is excerpts of his Loreto report: “Off to a good start. Founds lots of roosters today...almost all cookie cutter copies of about 5lbs. Good action. Had several teased up which ate the fly big time so the Farishes are happy.

It went really well again today… dorado and lots of skipjack. Sam caught the big bull he wanted...about 30lb.”

Lance Peterson and the Farishes moved to Lopez Mateos the last few days. Lance’s report:
“Fishing here at Lopez Mateos has been very productive. Heavy winds prevented us from fishing offshore today. Thursday, we made it out some 28 miles and were immediately rewarded with yellowfin tuna and doubles on dorado. While it wasn't WFO, we had no trouble finding enough fish to keep the anticipation level high. Friday, we stayed in the bay and found excellent action on pargo, corvina, white sea bass, and the odd

Water temps have been ranging from 63 early in the day to 69 later in the day. The lake is 2 ft. low, but stable. The bass are beginning to get more aggressive as the water cools and they will only get better with time. Most of the bass have come out of the grass and pad mix using a V&M; Pork Shad(super fluke) in colors of watermelon/red and junebug fishing them over and through the hydrilla and pads on the creek and slough edges. Texas rigged watermelon candy/chartreuse tail High Tails(brushhog) pitched along the edges of the creeks and on the cypress trees are working well. We have really caught some nice sized bass this past week, including several 5-7 lb. bass.
