Hummer H3
Hummer Gets More MPG
GM is introducing a new Hummer the H3 in 2006. The H3 is a smaller version of the humongous H2. Hummer is famous for two things: unmatched off road capability and being the biggest gas hog of them all. According to GM and independent tests the H3 will do Hummer proud off road. That's not news. The news is that the H3 will get around 20 mpg.
When compared with the gas guzzling H2, the H3 is measurably smaller. GM has a cool tool on hummer.com that puts the two Hummers side-by-side. The massive H2 is 203.6 inches long, 81.2 inches high, and weights 6,400 pounds. The new H3 is 186.7 inches long, 74.7 inches wide, 74.5 inches high and weighs in at 4,700 pounds. The reduced weight makes for some fuel savings but the H3 also has an engine that is both high-tech and lightweight.

The Vortec 3500 is 220 hp and delivers a good compromise of performance and gas mileage. The H3 comes with either a 4-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual transmission. Like its big brother it is full-time four wheel drive.
Serious Off Road
If you really need an off road vehicle the H3 will not disappoint you. The H3 boasts a maximum approach angle of 40 degrees and departure angle of 37 degrees. That means the H3 can drive into and out of a hole without getting the front or rear of the truck hung up. The H3 can also climb 16-inch vertical steps. On the road the H3 should not have any problems -- you can squash a coke can with ease.
Hummer H3 Interior
Hummer is known for putting together a nice interior, both very comfortable and high quality. The H3 continues this tradition with a slick leather interior, cool looking gauges, and really comfortable seats. We especially like the built in lumbar. The new H3 is going to be available in late spring of 2005, which is about now. So keep your eyes peeled for yet another new SUV prowling the streets.
