Sexy Shoes for a Sexy Getaway

Author: Kathy Steinemann

Sexy boots or shoes can make you feel like a goddess - or a torture victim. Choosing the right footwear should entail much more than walking by a store window, seeing something that looks good on a mannequin, and making an impulse purchase.

Beauty does NOT have to involve discomfort. A pained frown is not attractive - and neither are feet with angry red blisters. Ill-fitting footwear can cause both.

The Right Style

Spike heels look great - but if the height difference from toe to heel is more than 2 inches, you will be forcing almost all of your weight onto your toes. This can increase the impact dramatically compared to what you would experience with flat soles. Try comfortable shoes with a stacked toe. You can then wear stiletto heels - but the incline from toe to heel can be maintained at 2 inches or less. A part lucite sole gives the illusion of walking on air and negates any impression of 'clunkiness'.

Make sure that straps provide firm support without shifting or chafing while you walk. Check for quality, sturdy construction.

The same technology used for creating comfortable soles on athletic shoes is now available for high heels. The soles contain pockets of air encased in durable materials. The air pockets cushion each step and dramatically reduce impact.

Shoes with leather uppers will conform to your feet while allowing them to breathe, absorbing heat and moisture. Footwear must be absolutely comfortable. Forget the so-called breaking-in period. Everything should fit and feel comfy right from the moment of purchase.

The Right Size

Do not delude yourself into believing that you take a size smaller or narrower than you really do. Size is just a number. Choose the correct size and width, or your feet will pay the price. Yes, there are gel-filled comfort inserts for high heels; however, they cannot compensate for a poor design or incorrect fit.

The Testing Period

Walk around the store for 5 minutes or so in your heels or boots. Do they wobble from side to side? Wobbling isn't sexy or safe - you could twist or break an ankle! You should be able to take normal steps with no side-to-side movement. Start with small steps, first putting weight on the heel and then rocking to the ball of each foot. Keep your toes pointed forward as you walk, and your legs close together. Pretend you are wearing a skinny skirt. You should not feel any tenderness or rubbing. At the first sign of discomfort, try another pair.

When you are absolutely certain that you have found the perfect footwear, ring up the sale - but keep your sales slip!

Immediately wear the new footwear indoors for about an hour. A smooth clean floor is best. You can walk without tripping over obstacles or sidewalk cracks. During this test, the soles will retain their new look. After the hour has passed, make your final decision. If your feet are sore, return the footwear to the store without delay and find something else.

Once you have the perfect fit, practice walking up and down stairs, on uneven surfaces, and on thick carpeting. If you plan to go dancing, spend some time practicing dance steps as well. Don't go out in public until you feel confident.

Now Enjoy the Attention!

Your feet will thank you for your careful preparation - and the look of admiration on your partner's face when he observes your radiant smile and gorgeous gams will be well worth the effort.

Remember: A relationship is like a rose - not without thorns, exquisite but delicate. With care and attention it flourishes. Neglect can cause it to wither and die.
