Abundant Year-Round Recreation
With 300 days of sunshine a year, the strikingly beautiful Klamath Region is a place to enjoy every season. Running Y Ranch® is situated on the eastern side of the Cascade Range against the wooded shores of Upper Klamath Lake, the largest natural body of fresh water in the Pacific Northwest. This water wonderland inspires motor boating, water skiing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, camping and boisterous whitewater rafting. Nearby streams are a fly fisherman’s delight, where trophy-size rainbow trout are waiting in the lake. In winter, snow bunnies gather for skiing and snowmobiling.
With six national wildlife refuges in the region, Klamath Basin is legendary as the most important gathering point for migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway. Swans, geese and ducks cross the sky each fall and spring in their age-old migration. White pelicans, herons and egrets gather in the resort wetlands. If you’ve never seen the America’s signature bird, the Bald Eagle, come to the Running Y. You could see scores of them at once. A true birders’ destination. Remember your binoculars!
The 4,095-foot altitude and a mild year-round climate add up to fun for all seasons. Just 54 miles north, world-famous 7,700-year-old Crater Lake, at 1,949 feet the deepest, clearest lake in the United States, has a 33-mile Rim Drive for spectacular views, and boat tours in summer. The Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway, one of only nine All-American Roads in the nation, runs right across our doorstep and offers dramatic views around every bend. Running Y opens the door to a splendid four-season recreational Eden.
At Winema National Forest (20 miles), backpacking, hiking, biking and equestrian trails weave in and out of the wilderness. In wintertime, cross-country ski trails and snowmobiling attract the vigorous visitor. Lake of the Woods (20 miles), the Klamath River Canyon (28 miles), Sky Lakes Wilderness Area (35 miles)—all these natural wonders are just minutes away.
Visitor services and health care at the Merle West Medical Center are located at Klamath Falls, where shopping, fine dining, art galleries and museums offer cultural enrichment. The restored art deco Ross Ragland Theater is host to touring Broadway productions and symphony concerts. The Favell Museum of Western Art and Artifacts is acclaimed for one of the finest Western heritage exhibits in the United States. Ashland, an hour away, is home to the world-renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival from March through October.
