Introduction
One of the best ways to find articles and other content on Seasoned Cooking is by using our search engine. You can get to it from almost any page on our site by clicking on the big "Search" tab on the left side of the page.

What you can Search for
For now, your search will find relevant articles and store items. In the near future, we’ll be including the related sites, message board, and other content in our search index.

Basic Searching
In the simplest case, to search, you simply type one or more key words in the "Search For" text box that describe what you're searching for and click the "Search" button below that text box. You will generally get results within a few seconds.

Advanced Searching
If you want a little more control over your search, you have a few powerful options. First, you can control whether to search for any or all of the key words you entered. If you choose "All" (default choice), each word you add will tend to narrow the results more. By contrast, if you choose "Any", each word you add will tend to broaden the results more.

You can control how the search results are sorted, too. Typically, you'll want to use the default choice of sorting by score. The score of an item is calculated based primarily on how many times your key words show up in an article, so you'll generally find the results at the top of the list are more appropriate than ones farther down. You can also sort by articles' (or other items') titles (names) or authors' names. Finally, you can opt to have no sorting. This allows a search to run marginally faster, since sorting takes a little extra time.

The most important way you can add power to your search is by using the advanced query options, including phrasing and key word exclusion. To search for a phrase -- a group of words taken together -- simply put double-quotes around all the words. For example, the query " "skinless chicken" sauce " will get you more specific results than just " skinless chicken sauce " as separate words, which might also return an article about skinless fish and chicken soup.

If you want to make sure an article does not include certain key words or phrases, be sure to put a minus (-) sign in front of each word or phrase you want excluded. For example, "chicken -fish" will return articles about chicken but not about fish.
