| Public Diplomacy Officer Assignment: Alva City |
The school called – your child is ill, probably the flu – so you reach the Ambassador’s special meeting late. She’s gone, but the
Economic Officer brings you up to speed. The Ambassador announced that, in one month, Alva City will host a multinational meeting
intended to put the final touches on a new regional free trade agreement. Similar to NAFTA and CAFTA, this trade agreement involves
the U.S., Vendurasaca, and three neighboring countries. You are generally familiar with the idea. For weeks your press section has
sent media reaction reports to the State Department summarizing local press discussion about the treaty. The Ambassador said that the
U.S Trade Representative will lead the U.S. delegation, which will also include representatives from State’s Economics Bureau. The
Representative will be coming with her husband, but further details are sketchy at best. Apparently representatives from the
neighboring countries will be coming, and the Ambassador also mentioned a Congressional staff delegation. The Economic Officer said
that the Ambassador has put him in charge of internal embassy coordination, and she wants a progress report in three days. The
Economic Officer hopes that you can come to an informal organizational meeting with your colleagues in 24 hours. It has been a busy
day. You were working on your Employee Evaluation Report and thinking about an International Visitor program when the school called,
and you hope that you can put off working on the summit for at least a day. Walking back to your office, you decide what to do next.
