Advertising Schmadvertising. I'm Talking About Content.
Traditional banner ads are becoming delivery systems for content and promotional material. Click-to-play video ads can turn an ad banner into a video channel. Click-to-call ads can turn an ad banner into a sales or support center by putting a person in voice communication with a sales rep or support person almost instantaneously. And there are interactive banners that serve as miniature Web applications like the ones from Chitika that turn ad space into mini online retail platforms, complete with product descriptions, reviews, search, and comparison shopping.

Search Envy is the Mother of Invention
Or, just put the point of sale on your site. In yet another creative attempt to give publishers access to search's direct marketing model, contextual targeting, and cost-per-click pricing all at once, startup Chitika is planting "eMini-Malls" on content sites. In place of a traditional banner, the technology works like AdWords to interpret the context of a given page. In this case, however, Chitika delivers an interactive ecommerce unit with targeted merchandise, comparative prices, and even product recommendations. Bettering Banner Ads: Make your site's online advertising
add value to your brand
Improving on banner ads has been a recurring challenge of the Internet age, and it seems companies haven't figured out the formula yet. Truly Useful Banner Ads
Usefulness and banner ads: That combination seems to be a contradiction in itself. However, while sorting though all my unread e-mails recently I saw an announcement of Chitika, a pay-per-click contextual advertising service based in Marlborough, Massachussetts, that has introduced "eMiniMalls" -- banners I'd probably like to click on if offered in the right context.

Internet Banner Ads Look to Get More Interesting
