The Owyhee RiverWe offer this trip from mid-May through Memorial Day to groups of 8 or more. We meet in Rome, OR for 5 days of unsurpassed beauty and solitude within deep canyons of magnificent scenic splendor. The scenery on this river trip is nothing short of spectacular. Basalt walls rise abruptly on both sides of the river, often directly from the water's edge. The unending variety of rock formations - columns, spires, needles, and arches - will continually astound even the most jaded river rat. Steep-walled canyons, spring fed creeks, waterfalls and natural hot springs make the Owyhee a true wilderness adventure. Wildlife is abundant and paddlers often spot golden eagles, prairie falcons, bighorn sheep, otters, and much more. As the canyon narrows and deepens, the gradient rises and creates Class II to Class II+ rapids. The canyon then opens for several miles providing many campsites and sandy beaches. The excitement eases for awhile but the languid journey is soon interrupted with a handful of Class III, and Class IV to V rapids. Cascading creeks create waterfalls and pools where paddlers can take a plunge. Remnants of old cabins and aborted ranching efforts provide historical interest. Further on, look for historic petroglyphs on rock slabs near the river. After a day of Class II to Class IV rapids, rejuvenate yourself in a natural hot spring while your guides are preparing your gourmet dinner. Please Note: The federal permitting agencies requires a 3% use fee on federally regulated rivers which applies to all trips. Rogue Klamath | About Us | Contact Us | Reservations | Affiliates
