North Shore Shark Adventure
North Shore Shark Adventure with Hawaii Shark Encounters
Get ready for the experience of your life. Almost every day someone says, "That was the
coolest thing I've ever seen!"
What Hawaii Shark Encounters Gives You
Each day the Hawaii Shark Encounters boats leave the Oahu North Shore from Haleiwa Harbor.
It takes fifteen minutes to travel out to the international shark grounds just three miles
from shore. There we share an hour and a half of sharks, excitement, and the beauty of the
famous North Shore.
Sharks are naturally dangerous, but we apply years of knowledge and experience to provide
a safe environment for humans and sharks to meet. Our North Shore Shark Adventure brings
you out to the sharks in their native waters so you can enjoy their power and grace--face to face.
Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, and National Geographic have all featured Hawaii Shark Encounters.
We have a proud reputation to help educate people worldwide about sharks.
What Happens on Your North Shore Shark Adventure
Minutes after we arrive, the North Shore Shark Adventure begins. The sharks are drawn to the
surface by the sound of the boat's engine and they gather to see us. Because we are such regular
visitors to their home, you don't have to pay if you don't see a shark!
What You Do
You'll get your biggest North Shore Shark Adventure thrills in the shark cage.
As soon as the first shark appears we get the first volunteers into the cage. The water is
crystal clear and about 400 ft. deep, so the underwater view through the cage's big plexiglas
windows is marvelous. The windows are almost invisible, so you're going to jump back when that
first 10-foot Galapagos shark zooms in on you. You'll quickly get used to it, and soon you'll
be nose-to-nose at the glass with really big sharks.
The cage is big enough so you can move about easily to get different views. It's open at the
top for quick entry and exit. See the "Shark Cage" page for more details.
What You Need to Know
The most common sharks on the North Shore Shark Adventure are the Galapagos and Sandbar
sharks. Both types of shark are curious and fearless. They'll swim really close to the shark
cage in groups as large as thirty. (See the
"Our Hawaii Sharks"
page for more about these and other sharks.)
You don't need any experience diving and there's no minimum age for the
North Shore Shark Adventure. But even experienced divers will find excitement! Underwater
professionals and strict landlubbers will find fun and thrills. Our North Shore Shark Adventure
is for everyone!
Please be flexible with your schedule. You might want to plan the North Shore Shark Adventure as
the ultimate climax of your trip--but please don't. If the weather turns bad we sometimes have to
reschedule, and we don't want you to lose your opportunity for real adventure.
After the shark tour, check out the town and beautiful public beaches nearby. The harbor is easy
walking distance from lots of great shops and site-seeing in Haleiwa town.
