Whalers Village Museum offers a self-guided tour that takes you back in time, to the old whaling days on Maui. The whaling era dates back to the early nineteenth century during a period between (1825-1860). This history-oriented museum is the only one of its kind on Maui and displays many artifacts, photo murals and interpretive graphics of this era as well as one of the largest scale models of a whaling ship anywhere on display. Hawaii State Art Museum opened in November 2002 and showcases one of the finest collections of art in the entire state of Hawaii. Many works of art on display are by artists who have called Hawaii home since Hawaii became a state in 1959. The collection features more than 300 pieces of work including sculptures, paintings, photographs and more that reflect Hawaii’s art history. The Art Museum is Hawaii's second-largest art gallery after the Honolulu Academy of Arts. Built is 1928 on prime real estate near the Iolani Palace, the classic architecture of the building is a piece of art work itself. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sunday, Monday, and all state and federal holidays. Admission to the museum is free. Contact the Museum for more information.

Pearl Harbor - USS Arizona Memorial. While you're in Hawaii be sure to visit Pearl Harbor. The events of December 7, 1941 are forever etched in history and signify the beginning and the end of World War II. Managed by the National Park Service (NPS), the USS Arizona Memorial (USAR) is built over the remains of the sunken battleship USS Arizona, the final resting place for many of the crewmen who were surprised on December 7, 1941 when Japanese Naval Forces invaded Pearl Harbor. The Memorial is accessible only by the NPS tour from the visitor center. The park is open seven days a week 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed Thanksgiving Day, December 25, and January 1. Tours are free; begin about every 15 minutes from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm, on a first-come, first-served basis.
