Kent, England is situated southeast of
London, England. It lies between the River Thames and the North Sea on the
north and to the Strait of Dover and the English Channel on the south.
Continental Europe is located just 21 miles south of Folkestone, Kent.
Because Kent borders on Greater London,
the northern part of the county is becoming industrially more important. Kent is
also strategically located between London and Europe, and therefore is the main
transportation corridor to the European community, with the Port of Dover as
its main ferry terminal. The English Channel Tunnel or "Chunnel" begins in
southern Kent near the town of Folkestone and ends in France.
Much of Kent County is agricultural;
however, many small towns and villages such as Canterbury and Folkestone dot
the countryside, giving Kent County its character and
charm. The Kent county town is Maidstone.
