New York, NY
11/07/2006
The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX:TOC) today announced that David
Turner, currently Thomson's senior vice president of finance, was named
"CFO of the Year" at the New York Ten Awards. Mr. Turner served as
chief financial officer of Thomson Financial from 2001 to 2005.
The New York Ten Awards are an annual selection of ten individuals and
companies in the greater New York business community that display
extraordinary innovation and leadership in their industry and beyond. The
2006 finalists were drawn from open nominations submitted to the Executive
Council of New York. Hundreds of nominations were screened and
evaluated by a panel of judges comprised of prominent journalists from New
York-based local and national business media outlets. Candidates were
evaluated based on the individual's contributions to his or her
organization's objectives and leadership; the organization's impact on
business innovation, both in New York and nationally; and the individual's
industry leadership beyond his or her organization.
"We congratulate this year's winners, who are at the helm of the most
prominent and emerging growth organizations, and salute them for bringing
innovation, leadership, integrity, and community involvement to the
forefront of the New York business community," said Robert Johnston,
president of the Executive Council of New York. These luminaries are
leading by example and inspiring new standards of novel ideas and success."
"We congratulate David on a well-deserved honor. At Thomson, he has
proven himself to be a valuable member of the executive team. We are
proud of his past achievements and look forward to his continued
contributions to the company in his role in our organization," said Robert
Daleo, chief financial officer, The Thomson Corporation.
Mr. Turner was named senior vice president, Finance for The Thomson
Corporation in October of 2005. In his current role, Mr. Turner is
responsible for the Corporation's accounting, reporting, control, and
compliance functions and is leading significant transformation and
integration activities across the company.
Mr. Turner is a member of the board of trustees of the Intrepid Museum in
New York City, serving in previous years as co-chairman of the Fleet Week
Gala and the Intrepid Salute to Freedom, a board member of the Fisher
Center for Alzheimer's Research and a board member of Community Centers
Incorporated, a Greenwich, Connecticut-based charity assisting the
underprivileged community.
The awards were presented last night at the Ten Awards Gala at Cipriani
Wall Street. Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard and author
of the new book, Tough Choices, delivered the keynote
remarks. Liz Claman, co-anchor of CNBC's Morning Call and
author of the upcoming book, The Best Investment Advice I Ever
Received, served as Master of Ceremonies. Cushman &
Wakefield served as host sponsor of the gala, and 2004 Ten Award winner and
