Authors:

The UP has long been known as an area that has been a great environment
In which writers and authors found the history, people, wildlife, and geography,
as topics in which they were drawn to put their deepest thoughts into script that
we have all enjoyed over the years. Ernest Hemingway wrote in the “Nick Adams Stories” about trout fishing. Cully Gage writes about life in Logging Camps. Fredrick Stonehouse has many outstanding books about the Great lakes and Shipwrecks. John Volecker was one of the worlds most renowned authors of Fly Fishing stories, in addition to writing, “The Anatomy of a Murder” which was made into a major motion picture.
“Hiawatha” by Longfellow was reportedly written about an Indian Legend of the UP. Listed below are websites of several of our current authors in the Upper Peninsula. Scroll down to read more about their writings and books for sale.

Another book, Haunted Lakes, Great Lakes Maritime Ghost Stories, Superstitions and Sea Serpents, has opened an entirely new genre in Great Lakes study. His book, Final Voyage, is the first Great Lakes shipwreck book for children.

He has also been a consultant for both the U.S. National Park Service and Parks Canada and has been an "on-air" expert for National Geographic, History Channel and Fox Family, as well as many regional media productions. Awards for contributions to Great Lakes maritime history have been received from Underwater Canada, Our World Underwater, Marquette Maritime Museum and Marquette County Historical Society    Website/Book Purchase
