Tatranska
Lomnica is situated 850 meters above sea level. The largest
of all Tatra settlements Tatranska Lomnica serves several functions.
It is a real centre of tourist activity, offering ski slopes in
nearby Skalnate Pleso, well-though-out transportation system,
the National Park and the botanical gardens of the Park's Nature
Exposition. It is also the seat of the administration of the Tatra's
National Park.
The highest ski altitude is almost 2200 meters above sea level.
In Tatranska Lomnica visitors can find
two cable cars,
the old and the new one. The old cable car was built in 1937 and
its actual capacity amounts to 50 people per hour. It runs throught
the station Skalnate Pleso (1210 m) to the top of Lomnicky Stit
(2632 m) - the second highest mountain in Slovakia. The new cable
car is an egg-lift which transport 430 people per hour.
Thanks to its vertical drop and the quality of wide and well-maintained
ski trails, it is, without any doubt, one of the top Slovak ski
resorts. There
are two main ski trails marked in black.
One of them, called "French Mulde", gives even expert and advanced
skiers an unusual and unexpected ski experience! Skiing is available
here until May 15th or even longer, and this is the fact that
is "warmly" appreciated by friends of sunny "t-shirt" skiing.
Visitors can enjoy their spare time in casinos, fitness centres
and swimming pools. In town you will also find shops, services
and vacation houses.
Picnic meadows, sporting facilities,
and a
horse racing track are also available in the vicinity.
Mountain tops and other hiking attractions can be reached on foot
or by cable car. In winter,
toboggan runs and other winter
sports round out the activities. There is a detachable 4-person
gondola at Tatranska Lomnica - Skalnate Pleso that provides transportation
up to the hill in only 14 minutes and the 4800m long downhill
runs back to Lomnica is something definitely to enjoy! Other attractions
that Tatranska Lomnica offers are night
skiing, discos on the
snow, dog yoke competitions, paragliding, flying in tandem,
and other exciting surprises. These all are waiting for all visitors
in the coming winter season.
