River Guide School

So, you want to learn how to be a river guide?
Then Wild Water Adventures has got just the program you need to get you started!

River rafting on the Kicking Horse makes a great family whitewater vacation!

Imagine, being in control of your own crew and craft, reading and selecting the ideal "line" through foaming whitewater rapids, feeling the exhilaration, excitement and personal fulfillment that follows a successful "run" through a skill-testing rapid. At Wild Water Adventures, we know what that feeling is like and we want to show you how you can experience it for yourself!

If you love the outdoors and enjoy meeting people, the unique and wonderful world of professional river guiding may just be your next career or summer job. If you are serious about obtaining work in this industry, our fun, informative and intensive 16-day River GuideTraining School is for you.

No immediate plans to become a professional guide? Then our course provides you with a terrific outdoor learning adventure with the instruction and opportunity to confidently steer your own raft and crew down swirling whitewater and through challenging rapids. You will also learn about river safety, trip planning, food preparation and logistics co-ordination so that you may organize and lead your own personal river trips.

Hanging around after a whitewater rafting adventure

Under the guidance and support of our dedicated team of experienced instructors, you'll learn about river dynamics and hydrology, river reading skills, properly rigging rafts for commercial or private trips, raft construction and maintenance, river and rafting terminology, rafting safety, the latest in river rescue skills and techniques, group leadership, ice-breakers and fun group games, food preparation and health concerns in the outdoors and much, much more.

Our 16-day program goes beyond what you may learn in shorter courses and better prepares you for work in the industry. On average, you'll spend 4 to 5 hours on the water each day where you will learn the skills, techniques and secrets of successful raft guiding. Because we use the outdoors as our "classroom" for the entirety of our program, the learning continues off river as well. We'll teach you the essentials about food planning for groups, safe food handling, group dynamics and other skills for overnight and multi-day excursions. By the end of the program, each participant will have the opportunity to be a "trip leader" under the watchful and supportive eye of your instructors. You will also leave with internationally recognized certification as a "Swiftwater Rescue Technician".

Included in our programs is all rafting gear, (state of the art "Riken" self-bailing rafts, paddle and oar rafts, catarafts, safety gear, etc.) all meals and cooking utensils, reference book and materials and lots more. We would be pleased to send you our complete information package and detailed itinerary. Simply e-mail or call us on our toll free number.
