Have you seen a whale shark? The ECOCEAN PhotoID Library© is a visual database of whale sharks catalogued by researchers and divers worldwide. Photo analysis and information search tools are built into the Library, as well as a unique pattern-matching technology that searches for identical spot patterns on the flanks of whale sharks from thousands of collected photographs.
We use JAI-based dynamic imaging technology to copyright and process submitted images and to map extracted spot patterns back onto source images for accurate "body printing". All photos and sightings are welcome, and contribute to "best practices" management of the marine ecosystem.
