The Vienna cozyness might be a cliche, but if you think to see a "real Viennese", you are most likely to find her/him in a static position: in a coffee shop reading the news papers for hours and drinking a large cup ot coffee, with friends at the "Heurigen" or feeding the pigeons in the park.

Since 1979 Vienna is the UNO-City and since 2001 the old part of Vienna belongs to the UNESCO world heritage list. With a population of 1,6 millions there are 20% of foreigners living in Vienna - but no one really cares since it was the case ever before.

Vienna's very nature as the metropolis of a huge empire proved somewhat problematic during WW I (1914-18), as far as living conditions in the city were concerned. Although not directly confronted with military threats and outright fighting - contrary to WW II -, the city suffered terribly and was virtually starved of all supplies. When the war was over -- and the monarchy had ended in the late autumn of 1918 --, the former imperial capital of the Habsburg empire had shrunk to the status of the capital of a tiny new country. Vienna's position within this fledgling republic was often described as that of a "hydrocephalus", which term highlights not only the concentration of the country's population in the city but also the burden Vienna posed on the young state.
Ultimately, in 1921, considerations, not only of a political nature, resulted in the adoption of the so-called "Separation Act", which cut the age-old link between Vienna and the surrounding province of Lower Austria and elevated the city to the rank of a province in its own right. Beginning in 1918-19, Vienna had a Social Democratic majority. Since a large part of the population was concentrated in Vienna, Lower Austria, although predominantly rural and conservative, also had a Social Democratic government. Therefore, it was chiefly in the interest of the Christian Socialist Party to promote the separation.

Vienna and its surrounding have a soft continental climate. The blowing wind makes you feel cooler than it actually is. In winter it could also be quite icy. During the summer months it can be very hot and there are some rainy days as well. The ideal months for travelling are May, June, September and October. Average air temperature in January is (daytime) 1°C, in April 14°C, in July 25°C and in October 14°C.

Coming from the airport you can reach us on the city highway B9 towards Schwechat, after the second traffic lights turn right towards Mannswörth.

Westbahnhof - Südbahnhof - S7 towards airport - station Mannswörth and from there to foot to the hotel in approx. 10 minutes. Or Westbahnhof - Südbahnhof - train S7 direction Vienna-Airport - stop "Groß Schwechat" and from there by bus 279 to the stop "Mannswörth Raiffeisenkasse", which is next to our Das Reinisch Hotel & Restaurant****, in few minutes. The train S7 stops in Wien-Nord, Wien-Mitte and Rennweg as well.
