President Bush (Nov. 28): "Each of the Baltic countries is meeting its obligations to strengthen NATO by bringing new energy and vitality and clarity of purpose to the Alliance. Department Spokesman Sean McCormack (Nov. 28): "...If the two sides can move beyond some of the obstacles that are in the way right now, and we all know what those are, there is a real prospect of a political horizon there and having the two sides sit down together and work through some of the real issues that lead to a two-state solution. Deputy Spokesman Tom Casey: "The United States welcomes the recent passage of four significant country resolutions at the United Nations General Assembly's Third Committee. . . . calling on the governments of Burma, Belarus, Iran and North Korea to end human rights violations. We were disappointed that our resolution on Uzbekistan was narrowly blocked by a 'no-action' motion, a move to stifle debate that was rebuffed in each of the other four."
