The location overlooks Cold Bay and has a spectacular landscape of Active Volcanoes and snowcapped Glacial filled Mountain valleys. There are 4 private guest rooms meticulously finished off in T&G Pine with 2 full baths. The 3,5 or 7 day all-inclusive lodge packages combine 1st class accommodations & Food with spectacular Fishing and Waterfowl hunting in nearby Izembek Wildlife Refuge & Lagoon all thrown in. We also offer overnight and day flyout trips to other remote camps listed below. We believe this is the best combination Cast & Blast package in all of Alaska for Silvers, Halibut, Char, Geese, Ducks, Black Brant and Ptarmigan offering guests Over 400,000 reasons to come. Welcome to the Alaskan Peninsula's finest Steelhead, Salmon & Waterfowl packages at one of our remote River camps 650 miles SW of Anchorage near the end of the North American Continent facing the Aleutian Islands and Kamchatka Peninsula. We have been exploring and test fishing these remote areas for the past 5 seasons, and are very excited to offer these 3 new destinations. During September -October these packages will be based out of our new lodge in Cold Bay and offer guests a world class Cast & Blast opportunity unmatched anywhere else in the World. Or you may choose to fish from our Volcano Bay Silver Camp or the Aleutian River Steelhead Camp. If you're tired of the same old boring lodge scene then this trip is for you. Due to the remote nature of these trips, and the often unpredictable weather, we recommend only well seasoned Fisherman or Bird hunters take these trips. Izembek Waterfowl Hunting Facts The Waterfowl populations in Izembek Lagoon have been holding at a steady rate for the past 15 years. The lagoon holds the entire worlds population of Pacific Black Brant before they head south to Mexico. The population averages between 160-180 thousand birds during September and October. The populations of Lesser and Taverner's Canadian Geese average between 120-140 thousand annually during the fall migration before they fly south at the end of October. Another 50-60 thousand Spectacle and Stellar eiders live in the lagoon, unfortunately the season is closed to hunting these wonderful Birds. The overall duck Population here is amazing and the Local biologist say it is one of the healthiest and diverse in all of North America. There is a large mix of Pintails, Mallards, Widgeon, Teal and Spoonbills with a decent population of Sea Ducks. A small population of King Eiders, Pacific Eiders. Harlequin and Scoters make this there winter home late in the season. This puts the total waterfowl population over 500,000 in this remote area. Izembek Lagoon is one of the true marvels for waterfowl hunting enthusiast to witness. On any given day we normally see 150-200 thousand birds in flight moving around the lagoon. The nicest thing about this area is that the birds move daily from the saltwater Lagoons to the fresh water ponds at high tide in search of fresh drinking Water and berries in the fields one of their favorite foods. If you want to experiance the best Waterfowl hunting left in North America then you need to come to Coldbay and Hunt out of our New Izembek Lodge with full time Professional Waterfowl and Ptarmigan Guides Rafi Jeknavorian and Al Spallinger. The fishing in this part of Alaska is nothing short of Fantastic if you want to fish for wild runs of fish to include Silver Salmon, Pink Salmon, Chum Salmon, Dollies and the King of the Aleutians the Steelhead. We have access to 3 river systems from the main lodge without flying out to include Russell Creek, Frosty Creek and Mortenson Lagoon. And we offer optional flyout fishing to Aleutian River and Volcano Bay. Our rivers are fairly small and running shallow and fast with a mixture of glacial gravel and cinder bottoms. Most of the fishing is pocket water fishing with small brightly colored purple and pink streamers for the Salmon, and egg patterns for the Char & Dollies using a 7wt fly rod and a floating line with a small amount of weight added to the leader.
Travel to this part of Alaska is fairly simple since Peninsula airways has daily flights to Cold Bay from Anchorage. You will need to make arrangements with Alaska Wilderness travel in Anchorage 1-800-544-2236 or your local travel agent to arrive in Cold bay on the start day of your trip usually a Sunday afternoon. Most guest's will have to fly to Anchorage the previous day and spend the night and catch the morning flight to Cold Bay with Peninsula Air. At the end of your trip we will return you to the local airport in Cold Bay and you will catch a return flight to Anchorage arriving in the late afternoon. Due to the commercial airline schedules many guest's may wish to stay over again in Anchorage and catch a morning flight back to there home airport. Return to top of Page The weather in this part of Alaska is unpredictable and during the fall season can vary from rain to high winds. During September the average daily temperatures range from 45-55 degrees with a few real nice days reaching the mid 60's. So everyone should pack and dress accordingly in layers of Polar fleece with a good rain and wind shell as the outer layer. Expect it to be windy as the average year round wind blows 12-15mph in Cold Bay at the airport. But this doesn't slow us down as we have gotten used to it and made adjustments in our fishing techniques. If your coming in October then the weather can be a little cooler and get down to the mid 30's at night but normal day temperatures will usually reach 40-50 degrees. If planning to flyout to one of our remote camps or flyout fishing trips please remember that if the winds exceed 25 mph we will not fly our small planes with passengers aboard for safety reasons, As there is no fish or game worth pushing the safety of our guest's. Return to top of Page The Interior of Izembek lodge was meticulously finished off with all T&G Pine with an exquisite decor of Alaska waterfowl and fishing combined with a roomy modern Kitchen and 2 separate full bathrooms for the 4 guestrooms to share. All Spallinger and Bob Murphy overdid themselves when they hand built the lodge and finished the trim in this Remote lodge. If your ready for the small lodge atmosphere with the best guides and food available while having world class Waterfowl hunting and Fishing then you have found the right place.
