Will we have a white Christmas Day? It's an age-old question that occurs to almost everyone this time of year. NOAA's National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) has created a report which contains updated maps and tables showing the percent probabilities for a snow depth of at least 1 inch on Christmas Day morning.

Locations with the highest probability for at least 1-inch snow depth in the continental U.S. include Marquette MI, Sault Ste Marie MI, Hibbing MN, International Falls MN, and Stampede Pass WA.

The full report with state by state probabilities is available from the NCDC Web site. The report is in a PDF format, you will need to download a free reader from Adobe.com to view the report.

Space Weather Advisories Issued By NOAA'S Space Environment Center
Space WeatherRecent sunspot activity has resulted in a category R3 (Strong) Radio Blackout with an associated S2 (Moderate) Solar Radiation Storm. This may result in wide area blackout of HF (High Frequency) radio communication. Satellite communications and low-frequency navigation signals may also be briefly disrupted. Passengers and crew in high-flying aircraft at high latitudes may be exposed to elevated radiation risk.

...El Niño Update...
El Nino The latest El Niņo/Southern Oscillation Diagnostic Discussion, produced by scientists at the NOAA Climate Prediction Center, indicates El Niņo conditions are now evident in the tropical Pacific and should intensify during the next one to three months. However, this episode is expected to be much weaker than the very strong 1997-1998 El Niņo event. How will a typical El Niño event impact your weather? See the Seasonal Mean Temperatures and Precipitation for the United States.
